Another experiment, with the same old video. Spent the time creating the build-tools, and bumped the quality bar even higher. This is another vp9/opus but in an mp4 container with HLS on the server. Also, proper black on the end scroller 👍
@FiXato Don't know if it's because I tweaked things but discovered you can plug the download url straight into VLC. For this one it's https://algorithmic.tv/download/videos/5032d1e5-a241-4d10-9b4e-a1df6b85f571-720.mp4
Perhaps I should make it part of the short-url scheme ..
@espen okay, I had more success with the download link for v1 than v2 unfortunately.
v1 had audio and sound in VLC on Android 9
v2 had only sound.
VLC recognises it's Google/On2's VP9 1280x720@50fps 3.7MB/s video with 2 channel 48KHz audio, yet doesn't display any video for v2.
@FiXato Hm, I had a suspicion it would break more. v1 is 10bit 4:2:0 (profile 2) while v2 is 10bit 4:2:2 (profile 3) so the decoding demands more of the hardware. Don't know if android support is more of the "included in this Android version" type or if it's "enabled if we think the phone can handle it" variety. There was also the container issue, webm is the more native format for this. I might try that as well, just to be sure.
But like I said, phones are not really target group for algorithmic.tv, since the iThings just goes "Nope! Not a chance!" to the whole thing anyway 😁
